New XLSTAT version for Sensory features

A new update of XLSTAT is available, offering new possibilities to those working in the field of sensory analysis.
We are pleased to have presented this innovation at Eurosense, on September 14, in collaboration with our customer, Givaudan.

Power for Sensory discrimination tests

We have added a new feature that allows you to calculate the power or number of respondents needed to perform a sensory discrimination test.

The goal is to limit costs by using as few subjects as possible without compromising statistical conditions. An example is available on our Help Center.

CATATIS

Analysis of CATA data can be difficult in the presence of atypical subjects. To solve this problem, the CATATIS method was developed in 2019 by Dr. Fabien Llobell.

Several improvements have been made to our CATATIS functionality. We are pleased to have presented this innovation at Eurosense, on September 14, in collaboration with our customer, Givaudan.

As a reminder, CATATIS is an analysis of CATA data that takes into account inter-subject agreement. Since atypical subjects have a lower weight than those who agree with the rest of the panel, the analysis best reflects the general viewpoint rather than that of the atypical subjects.

Improvement 1: Possibility to have sessions

Whether in vertical format, by defining a column for sessions, or in horizontal format by using non-binary data, it is now possible to have sessions.

Improvement 2: Tests of the weights of the subjects

The significance of the subjects’ weights can now be tested with a permutation test. This allows you to see if a subject is really in agreement with the other subjects or not.

Improvement 3: Consistency/significance tests of the homogeneity of the subjects

Consistency tests for the entire panel or for individual attributes are now available.

  • With the homogeneity test (or consistency test) for all attributes, we can determine whether we can keep the data or not.
  • The homogeneity test (or consistency test) by attribute allows us to see if there is an attribute that is misunderstood or to detect a very large heterogeneity of responses to that this attribute.

Improvement 4: Inter-subject Repeatability Index

This index (between 0 and 1) can be used to determine if sessions are similar.

Reminder:

In addition to these last additions, XLSTAT offers many new features for sensory analysts. Our guide will help you to choose the right analysis for your data.
